How much do you need to start trading forex?
The amount you need to start trading forex depends on four things: your broker's minimum deposit, the leverage available to you, the lot size you plan to trade, and how much you are willing to risk per trade. Some brokers open cent or micro accounts from as little as $25 to $100.
Many beginners choose to start with a smaller account balance, such as $100 to $500 on a micro account. This may allow access to smaller position sizes and provide an opportunity to gain experience while managing exposure. Work the number backwards from your risk per trade: to risk $2 on a trade with a 20-pip stop, a micro lot at roughly 10 cents per pip may be more appropriate for a smaller account than a mini or standard lot.
A larger account does not guarantee better trading results; it primarily changes the dollar value of gains and losses relative to the same percentage movement.
