Trading at around 177.70 in Tuesday’s Asian session, EUR/JPY has ended a run of four consecutive daily gains. The daily chart continues to place the cross inside a descending channel, indicating that the bearish bias persists.
With short-term support below and medium-term resistance above, EUR/JPY remains in consolidation. Just beneath the cross, the nine-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA) stands at 177.54. Above it, the 50-day EMA at 179.84 limits gains, leaving the wider outlook neutral rather than firmly bullish. Below its midpoint at 42.59, the 14-day Relative Strength Index (RSI) indicates mildly weak momentum without signalling outright oversold conditions.

Immediate support is being tested at the nine-day EMA of 177.54. Should EUR/JPY break below this short-term moving average, the bearish bias would strengthen, putting the cross under pressure to revisit the 11-month low of 175.70 recorded in November 2025. The descending channel’s lower boundary, around 175.60, would be the next level to watch. A further increase in selling pressure that takes the cross beneath this support confluence could bring the 14-month low of 169.72 into view.
Initial resistance on any advance comes from the descending channel’s upper boundary near 178.70, ahead of the 50-day EMA at 179.84. Clearing that medium-term moving average would mark a bullish reversal and pave the way for EUR/JPY to move towards its all-time high of 187.95, set on 17 April.
In Japan, underlying inflation is now judged to be "quite close" to the 2% target by BoJ Governor Kazuo Ueda, Danske Bank analysts note. They highlight his assessment that tight labour markets and robust global AI demand are key drivers of price pressure.
