$80,000 breached: Top 3 Bitcoin, Ethereum and Ripple price predictions as BTC falls below the mark and ETH and XRP bears dominate

  • Bitcoin trades below $79,900 on Monday. The correction continues after three successive weeks of losses.
  • At $2,315, Ethereum trades lower after closing beneath its key ascending trendline, pointing to weakness.
  • Around $1.30, XRP has breached key horizontal support, increasing the risk of a more pronounced correction.

Bitcoin (BTC) falls below $80,000. Following three consecutive weeks of declines, bears retain control of BTC, Ethereum (ETH) and Ripple (XRP), with losses continuing on Monday. Tracking BTC lower, ETH and XRP trade at $2,315 and $1.30, respectively. Price action across these top three cryptocurrencies points to weakening momentum indicators and a greater risk of a deeper correction.

$80,000 breached as Bitcoin retreats

At $79,840 on Monday, Bitcoin remains above its 100-day and 200-day Exponential Moving Averages (EMAs), at $77,677 and $76,300, respectively. These averages support the broader uptrend, although the 50-day EMA at $80,787 continues to limit gains.

Despite support from the longer-term averages, momentum indicators suggest rallies are losing traction. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) reads 40, indicating waning bullish momentum. Meanwhile, the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) remains negative and beneath its signal line, accompanied by a persistently weak histogram.

The 50-day EMA near $80,787 presents the first upside hurdle. Beyond it lies horizontal resistance at $85,000, where earlier selling pressure is likely to return.

The 100-day EMA around $77,677 provides the first downside support, followed by a deeper structural floor at the 200-day EMA near $76,300. Closing below the latter on a daily basis would materially undermine the medium-term bullish structure.

$2,314 Ethereum trades below key ascending trendline

Trading at $2,314 on Monday, Ethereum retains a bearish short-term bias below its key EMAs. Just above the price sits the 200-day EMA at $2,316. The former ascending trendline, now resistance at $2,337, and the 100-day EMA at $2,362 add further upside constraints.

Downward pressure remains persistent, according to the negative MACD and its subdued readings. The RSI, near 32, points to increasingly oversold conditions, but proximity to that territory has not removed the bearish pressure.

Ethereum faces its nearest upside hurdle at the 200-day EMA of $2,316. The breached support trendline around $2,337 comes next, ahead of the 100-day EMA at $2,362. Further resistance lies at the horizontal level near $2,400, then the 50-day EMA at $2,458 and the more distant $2,770 resistance zone.

Should the current decline continue, the next significant support is the horizontal level at $1,823. Buyers could try to stabilise the broader uptrend there.

$1.30 support gives way as XRP closes lower

At 1.291 on Monday, XRP remains beneath its 50-day, 100-day and 200-day EMAs, preserving a bearish short-term bias. Weakness is also evident in the RSI reading of 38 and the slightly negative MACD. Together, these indicators show that downward pressure still dominates, despite some fading momentum.

XRP’s nearest upside hurdle is the psychological horizontal level of $1.30. The 100-day EMA at $1.333 and the 50-day EMA at $1.361 follow. Above these, a broader supply zone is formed by the 200-day EMA at $1.370 and the former horizontal ceiling at $1.540, before the major barrier at $1.900. No significant support levels are defined close by. To temper the current bearish bias, XRP would need to recover at least the $1.300–$1.333 area.

Cryptocurrency metrics: frequently asked questions

For each cryptocurrency, its developer or creator sets the total number of tokens that may be minted or issued. The algorithm underpinning its blockchain technology determines how many of these assets can be minted through mining, staking or other mechanisms. Circulating supply can also fall, whether through token burning or assets being mistakenly sent to addresses on incompatible blockchains.

Multiplying an asset’s circulating supply by its current market value gives its market capitalisation.

Over a specified trading period, such as 24 hours, trading volume measures the total number of tokens of a particular asset exchanged between buyers and sellers. This gauge of market sentiment aggregates volumes across centralised and decentralised exchanges. A rise in volume often indicates demand for an asset, as more participants buy and sell the cryptocurrency.

Designed to encourage traders to open positions and align perpetual contract prices with spot markets, funding rates underpin an exchange mechanism that uses periodic payments to bring futures and index prices into regular convergence. A positive funding rate indicates that the perpetual contract trades above the mark price. In that case, bullish traders holding long positions pay those holding short positions. With a negative funding rate, perpetual prices sit below the mark price, so traders holding short positions pay those holding long positions.
